Transportation in Milan is highly developed, so much so that it is usually recommended not to use it in a private vehicle, especially if you are an occasional tourist in the city. Below you will find all the options for getting around the city.
There are three airports near Milan. The largest field is Malpensa, a little northwest of the city. Some of the flights arrive at the airport near Bergamo, Orio al Serio, northeast of Milan, and domestic European flights usually land and take off at the airport located right inside the city, Linate. The two ports, Malpensa and Bergamo, are almost the same distance from the city, about 50 km, in opposite directions (about an hour’s travel time).
Trains depart from the airport about twice an hour to the central station in Milan or to the Cadorna station, which is also an important station in the center of Milan. The train is called the Malpensa express. Immediately upon exiting both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, follow the signs leading to the train. You will also recognize it by the symbol of a train. Near the platform you can buy the ticket at the cash registers or the automatic machines, before getting on the train you have to validate the ticket at one of the stamping machines located right before getting off at the platforms.
The cost of a one-way trip is 10 euros to buy in advance (note – with a specified time) and 12 euros to buy on the spot.
The bus also operates in the same way in the opposite direction – from Milan Centrale, the central station to Malpensa Airport.
*Please note that the round trip ticket is only valid for travel on the same day.
You can order the ticket online here,
Ordering online is only possible by ordering a ticket for a specific time and it does not need to be validated at the machines.
An even cheaper option, and no less comfortable, is traveling by bus. Again, both at the exit from Terminal 1 and also at the exit from Terminal 2, right after you have taken your luggage and gone through the gate you will see in front of you or at the gate next to you a sign for buses to Milan. At the moment one of the leading companies is Terravision, but the companies are changing and there are more. The buses park right on the exit floor and there is no need to go down to look for them. One-way price is 10 euros to buy in advance (with a specified time!), or 12 euros to buy on the spot. The buses usually arrive at the central station in Milan.
These two forms of transportation can of course also be used back to the airport.

A shuttle company connects the airport with Bergamo and Milan. The price of a one-way ticket is 8 euros. The travel time is about an hour to the central station in Milan. The buses leave near the area of the flights landing near platform No. 3. The buses are active until 12:45 at night. Late at night you can take a train to Bergamo and from there to Milan. The tickets can be purchased on the bus. You can find out details or order tickets online here.
