A two-hour drive from Milan will take you to the city of Verona. On the way you can also stop in one of the towns on the shore of Lake Garda (for example Sermione which appears above). The city of Verona is famous for the historical buildings that have survived in it from the Roman period. It is an ancient and romantic city that is definitely worth a visit, if you are in northern Italy. Verona is very famous for Romeo and Juliet’s balcony, but you can also visit the San Pietro Castle, which is located on a hill from which you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city. The Roman Arena, the ancient amphitheater is the third largest in the world and very impressive in its beauty. Next to the Arena lies a central piazza, the magnificent Piazza Bra lined with elegant cafes and a beautiful fountain. North from the square you can reach wonderful shopping areas, including the famous Mazzini pedestrian street. It’s fun to look at the shop windows. If you continue north you will reach one of the famous bridges of the city, on the Adige river, called Ponte Pietra, an ancient Roman bridge with a wonderful view of the city and the river. In the area you will also find a selection of trendy bars.
